The DAfree Journey

Nine levels of awareness.

Every step unlocks resources. You level up by engaging with the community, learning and sharing.

Level 1

New Voice

Welcome to the community. We start with the basics: why we say domestic abuse rather than domestic violence, and why it matters.

Unlocks the first awareness course.

Level 2

Awarer

Deepening our understanding of coercive control: recognising the signs, exploring how it feels, and its direct and indirect impacts.

Unlocks the Coercive Control Awareness course.

Level 3

Passionate

Exploring feminist theories of domestic violence, and why an open mind matters: abuse can affect anyone, regardless of gender.

Engage in discussions and support others.

Level 4

Committed

Domestic abuse through a legal lens: how the UK led with legislation, the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 and the global legal framework.

Is the law enough to prevent harm before it happens?

Level 5

Ambassador

Post-separation abuse: why ending a relationship does not always end the abuse, for women and men alike.

Officially recognised as a DAfree community Ambassador.

Level 6

Advocate

The effects of domestic abuse on children: physical, psychological, behavioural and developmental.

Speak out, educate others and drive positive change.

Level 7

Leader

Why so many victims face challenges in the criminal justice system, and why many hesitate to report abuse.

Guide members, host sessions and mentor newcomers.

Level 8

Champion

One of the most hidden forms of abuse: intimacy used as a tool of power within relationships.

Lead campaigns, initiatives and awareness events.

Level 9

Legacy

The highest level. We look at the lack of rehabilitation programmes for perpetrators, and how that keeps the cycle going.

Recognised for your contribution to long-term change.
